Significant Achievements in the Past Two Years (Max 200 words.) |
When the pandemic hit in 2020, we pivoted online and launched our #yourfutureisnotquarantined summer programming and continued with a hybrid of in-person and virtual services throughout the 2020-2021 school years. In the past 2 years, we’ve offered 240+ hours of online SAT prep, 48 hours of College Prep, and reached 623 students outside of our fellowship from all around the country. The 2021 Career Panel Summer Series featuring over 30 professionals in 10 industries that shared insight into their personal college and career journeys! The P.A.T.H. Internship placement program has matched 21 students with local businesses for 10-weeks of on-site mentorship where students learn about a career field that they are interested in, and also complete a value-add project as a way of creating a lasting contribution to the business after their internship has concluded. This fall, Path to College accepted 41 new students which brings our direct-student impact to 91 local students. Our 2021 graduates have all been accepted to four-year universities of which 85% were top-tier universities, 62% with full-ride scholarships. Overall with 3-graduating cohorts, 75% of students achieved acceptance to top-tier universities and 70% of those earned full-ride scholarships to their chosen schools. |
Provide Description of How Money Would be Spent (Max 200 words.) |
In our 3-year academic fellowship, 100% of our students’ families are at or below the federal poverty line, 100% are a part of the global majority (from minority populations), and more than 75% are young women. Low-income students are 50% less likely to apply to selective universities and students with a mentor are more likely to apply and complete college. Students with increased SAT scores and a campus visit are 40% more likely to be admitted than comparable students without those two “signals”. Therefore, each of our student Fellows are matched one-on-one with a local professional who provides that targeted support our schools and parents cannot provide. Our Mentors report improvements from their Mentees (student Fellows) in time management skills, communication with adults, general outlook, including a 64% increase in confidence and self-esteem.
In addition, by providing long-term SAT prep and targeted subject tutoring through our ASK Team, our students defy the odds stacked against them and apply to colleges at 200% the national average rate. They’re achieving the test scores, increasing between 120-300 points, necessary to be competitive and receive scholarships that mitigate the burden of student loan debt. |
