Significant Achievements in the Past Two Years (Max 200 words.) |
Our significant achievements over the last year include taking on eleven new families who are located throughout Palm Beach County. We have another three to four families currently in the pipeline. Financially, we can continue to bring on additional families to be supported by Bella’s Angels. One of our Buddies underwent a heart-transplant in Gainesville in May of 2022 and it has been very successful. We are hoping that he and his mother will be coming home within the next couple of months. In addition, in November of 2022, we will begin a Community Respite “Parent’s Night Out” program. This is a program in which once a month, families will be able to drop of their disabled children (and abled siblings) to be watched while the parents have a few hours to themselves. We have partnered with St. Peter’s Methodist Church in Wellington to host this program. This program has brought on volunteers that are new to the organization. It will help us be an outreach to the community, helping families who are in need. |
Provide Description of How Money Would be Spent (Max 200 words.) |
If we are so lucky to win funds from the Great Charity Challenge, we would use those funds for two purposes. The funds would help bring on additional families for us to support. The first year a family comes on, we allocate up to $10,000 to help the child with their medical expenses. From year two and beyond (until they turn 18 years old), we allocate up to $15,000 annually. The funds would be used to pay for medical expenses not covered by their insurance. Such expenses include: RX co-pays, Dr. co-pays, Therapy, Equipment, Medical Related Travel expenses such as food stipends, hotel stays, and car/plane expenses. Additional items that we cover are for medical supplies but therapy expenses are the biggest need for most of our families. Funds would also be utilized to assist with our Community Respite Care Program. With the exception of insurance for this program, the expenses are minimal but there still are expenses. This program will help in reaching out to the community, recruiting volunteers which ultimately help in recruiting additional families for us to serve. |
